Heylan Manufactures - Coir / Cocopeat Products

About Cocopeat

Coir is the outside layer of husk that surrounds the shell of the coconut. It consists mainly of fibers, which have traditionally been used to manufacture rope, carpets, doormats, upholstery stuffing, brushes etc. Between these fibers is the corky substance called "Coir Pith" or Coir "Dust" which has recently been widely recognized as the superior growing medium in which to grow tomatoes, roses and many other crops. The Horticulture industry often calls this substrate coco or Coir peat. Sometimes it is known by similar sounding brand names.

Heylan Cocopeat is a proven natural alternative to mined peat moss; therefore cocopeat can be slow down peat extraction from environmentally sensitive swamps.

Heylan Cocopeat is a multipurpose growing medium that is very easy to use. Its high air filled porosity and high water holding capacity makes it the ideal medium for all plant growing applications. Cocopeat compressed briquettes and bales. Moreover, cocopeat is an excellent substrate for vegetable, fruit and cut flower crops. It has many applications as an effective soil conditioner and soil-free substrate. Heylan Cocopeat provides new opportunities for:

The production and use of Heylan Cocopeat does not pose a threat or any harm to other ecological systems as cocopeat is a totally organic renewable resource. Using Heylan Cocopeat will be helpful to save precious water resources and decreases the use of chemical nutrients in seedling and other activities. Heylan Cocopeat is an excellent replacement for Rockwool for Hydroponic Growers, with no harmful environmental disposal problems.

Heylan Cocopeat has innumerable advantages in the agricultural and domestic gardening. Some of them are in potting mix, horticulture cultivation, nursery beds for seedlings, in gardens to conserve water, orchids, mushroom cultivation, plantation crops etc. The main advantage is that the valuable nitrogen is preserved in Heylan Cocopeat and moisture content is retained mainly in potting mix in home gardening.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF HEYLAN COCOPEAT
1. Excellent air porosity

Coir maintains excellent air porosity even when saturated and gives better crops with faster developing roots and more flowers and fruit per plant when used correctly.

These results are particularly marked with tomato and rose crops

2. Excellent water retention

Besides having obvious advantages in dry climates, coir based composts re-absorb moisture more readily than peat moss and plants recover more quickly, an invaluable attribute in maintaining plant quality to the point of sale.

3. Irrigation efficiency

Coco or Coir peat absorbs moisture even from a dry state, unlike sphagnum peat. This ease of wetting and quick drainage characteristic of coir means that coir needs to be irrigated less frequently and for shorter periods. This leads to reduced leaching losses of fertilizer and lower water charges.

4. Faster germination times & quicker seedling rotations.

The inherent qualities of coir and optimum water/air availability are ideal for quick rooting and propagation. In many cases this leads to more seedling rotations per year and a more efficient use of greenhouse and equipment. Cocopeat PH is ideal for seedling (5.8 - 6.5 pH).

5. Environmentally preferable to the alternatives.

In its unprocessed state, coir dust is a waste product in its country of origin. Its use therefore, does not involve the destruction of peat bogs and natural wetland wildlife habitat. It is a renewable resource with no hazardous disposal problems (unlike some alternatives such as rock wool).

6. Free from Soil diseases

Because Coir originates above ground, it does not contain any soil diseases. Coco fiber/pith has high lignin content. It provides excellent draining capacity. Water holding capacity is very high - about 8-9 times its weight and has a high nutrient absorption capacity. It can be used straight or mixed with any type of soil and is better than ALL other growing medium. Cocopith/fiber lasts in the soil for about 3-5 years. It is a better medium for root development and is a soil conditioner. It also prevents soil compaction and erosion.

7. Can be used for your compost pile.

Heylan Cocopeat can improve the composting process by speeding up the decomposition. Water is retained by cocopeat and reduces the leaching of nutrients in the soil while cocopeat minimizes aborts in the compost pile. Because of cocopeat’s acidity cocopeat will trap and saves valuable nitrogen sources that are often last from compost help as ammonia. Heylan Cocopeat makes your compost more effective as cocopeat works in two different ways. It restructures the soil whereas compost provides nutrients by blending the two where you can reduce compost's tendency to compost the soil and thus allow more water air and nutrients to reach plant roots.

8. Store and release nutrients

Heylan Cocopeat has the ability to store and release nutrient to plants for extended periods of time. It also has great oxygenation properties which is important for healthy root development.

9. Easy to use

Just put your compressed cocopeat brick in a container, add 4 quarts of warm water and let it sit until the water is absorbed, fluff it up and you are ready to use Cocopeat! Cocopeat can even be reused for up to 4 years!

10. Vermiculture

Heylan Cocopeat makes a great bedding material for worm bins! It's actually good for them and increases worm growth by 25%.

11 Can be used as Potting Mix

Using cocopeat for your potting mixed will have following advantages.

1. The valuable nitrogen is saved in cocopeat and moisture content is retained in your potting mix due to the water resistant feature of cocopeat.
2. Easily growing root and good airiness in your potting mix
